Cirsión de Bodegas Roda. El más grande de la Rioja

CIRSION de Bodegas Roda es uno de los vinos más singulares y exclusivos de la colección de SDS Internacional en Panamá. Solo unas pocas botellas de cada añada pueden ser adquiridas debido a la pequeña producción de este vino que guarda una bella historia relativa a la capacidad de Bodegas Roda para ir siempre un paso adelante en lo que a investigación e innovación se refiere. Observamos, en el año 1995, que algunas cepas producían uvas cuyo sabor era muy diferente al de las plantas de alrededor. Mientras la sensación habitual de la cata de una uva es de fruta fresca, acida y dulce, nos encontramos que en estos casos la sensación era de plenitud, de volumen, registros más próximos a un vino que a una uva.

Este descubrimiento nos hizo reflexionar sobre la causa del fenómeno y nos llevó a estudiar si era repetible a lo largo de los años y en otros viñedos.

Comprobamos que había cierta predisposición en algunas plantas a que se repitiera, pero además de la genética y de su microclima, también influía el efecto de la añada meteorológica.

Comenzamos a pensar que este fenómeno podía estar ligado a un nivel alto de polimerización de taninos en la propia uva, cuando lo habitual era creer que la unión de unos taninos con otros se producía en el proceso enológico y principalmente durante la crianza en barrica.

Si esto era cierto, las cepas estaban jugando un papel sustitutivo de la crianza y pensamos que elaborando por separado estas uvas conseguiríamos un vino de enorme sedosidad y evitaríamos que la madera robara parte de su riqueza frutal.

El año 1.997 elaboramos nuestro primer CIRSION, que no salió al mercado y comprobamos que con una corta crianza, alcanzó un nivel de sedosidad increíble y una complejidad frutal fuera de lo común.  El siguiente paso fue identificar visualmente los síntomas de las plantas y formar un grupo de vendimiadores capaces de detectarlas.

Cada año, en vendimias, recorremos algunos de nuestros viñedos buscando esta curiosa rareza natural y así, una entre mil, se recogen las uvas de CIRSION.

CIRSION from Bodegas Roda is one of the most unique and exclusive wines from the collection of SDS International in Panama. Only a few bottles of each vintage can be acquired due to the small production of this wine that bears a beautiful story on the ability of Bodegas Roda to stay one step ahead when it comes to research and innovation is concerned. We note, in 1995, that some strains produced grapes that taste was very different from the plants around. While the usual sense of a grape tasting fruit is fresh, sour and sweet, we find that in these cases was the feeling of fullness, volume, records closer to a wine than a grape.

This discovery made us reflect on the cause of the phenomenon and led us to study if it was repeated over the years and in other vineyards.

We found that there was some bias in some plants to be repeated, but in addition to genetics and its microclimate, influenced also add the effect of weather.

We began to think that this phenomenon could be linked to a high level of polymerization of tannins in the grape itself, when it was customary to believe that the combination of tannins with other occurred in the winemaking process and mainly during barrel aging.

If this were true, the strains were playing a substitute role of parenting and we prepared separately the grapes would get a wine of great smoothness and prevent the wood from stealing fruit from his wealth.

The year we make our first CIRSION 1997, which was not released and found that with a short breeding, reached a level of incredible smoothness and complexity unusual fruit. The next step was to visually identify the symptoms of the plants and form a group of harvesters able to detect them.

Each year, during vintages we tour some of our vineyards looking for this curious natural rarity and thus, in a thousand, collected CIRSION grapes.
